Chapter Event May – Member Showcase

May 18 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

- $60

About the Event:

The Member Showcase and Speaker Industry Panel is one of the most exciting and highly anticipated events of the NSA NYC year. This is a two-part meeting:
Part one consists of five professional members of the chapter presenting their best 5 minutes for their colleagues and a panel of three industry representatives — bureaus, agents, meeting planners. The panel gives its expert opinion on each presentation, how likely it would be to be booked, and how well it aligns with the speaker’s website.
Part two is a discussion with these industry professionals about the current state of the business, what topics are hot, what are not, and how best to reach the people who can hire you. We will solicit and have the panel answer your most pressing questions.
Every year at this event the level of presenting is higher and higher. Come see and hear your colleagues do their very best stuff — and learn the secrets of how to get booked!

About the Panelists:

Cindy Ashton is the CEO of Speaker Stardom Booking Agency, an elite-level presentation strategist, professional speaker, singer, and TV host of Cindy Uncorked on e360tv. With 20 years of experience, she is an authority on presentation skills, speaking voice, body language, content delivery, and leadership presence. Candian-born, Cindy lives in the United States under a green card for a person of “extraordinary ability” and is considered to be in the top one percent in her field of training, speaking, and performing. She has received awards from former president Barack Obama and Queen Elizabeth II for her lifetime of volunteerism, and has appeared in multiple media including ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and Inc. Magazine.

Blanche Powell was born and raised in North Carolina. She was taught early the values of hard work and hospitality. Blanche obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from East Carolina University. Following college, she and her high school sweetheart were married and began an Air Force career that took them from North Dakota to Texas and California to Virginia. During that time, Blanche pursued her varied career interests in teaching, music and business as well as singing in community groups, choirs, and working on various committees. Since 1996, the Powells have called northern Virginia home, where Blanche has followed her passion for customer service with the speakers’ bureau industry for 21 years. She and her partner, Maggie Kohne (now retired) started their own bureau, Powell Kohne Associates, in 2006. Today, Blanche continues her work with clients across the United States and beyond, helping them find the best speakers, celebrities and entertainers for their events, large and small. Building relationships with clients and speakers is what Blanche is all about!

In 2015 Li Hayes received a call from a professional speaker who just lost the opportunity to keynote an event, because his speaking agent had pushed a pricier alternative. The reason? It was in the bureau’s best interest. That afternoon GoLeeward was launched.
GoLeeward has the mission to partner with speakers to enhance their speaking careers; and to deliver the exact speakers that events want to achieve their goals, all in an atmosphere of transparent transactions. The recipe is simple, flexibility, active communication, and and no hidden agency markup (meaning no “sales” bias). Li is the Founder and President of GoLeeward, a sought after expert on the speaking industry, and personally oversees the firms most acclaimed presenters.
GoLeeward started with a single speaker in January of 2015 and has grown to over 20 speakers. Li adds speakers very conservatively considering not only the talent and message of each speaker but their business acumen and cultural fit.

About the Speakers:

Michelle Tillis Lederman, named one of Forbes Top 25 Networking Experts, is the author of several books including the internationally known, The 11 Laws of Likability. Her next book, The Connectors Club, will be released late 2018.

A former structural engineer and world-record-holding expert juggler, Jen Slaw teaches strategies that result in more balanced, productive, motivated, creative problem solvers and effective collaborators.
