ENGAGE & Inspire: mastering audience connection

If you are a first time guest to our chapter meetings, you can use our discount code at checkout to attend at no cost. Discount Code: FIRSTNSANYC

Meeting planners don't just want speakers who deliver information. They want speakers who create experiences. In a world of shrinking attention spans and increasing audience expectations, the ability to genuinely connect with your audience is one of the most valuable skills a speaker can develop.

In this highly interactive workshop, Anne Bonney, CSP, pulls back the curtain on the techniques she uses to turn passive audiences into active participants. You'll experience practical strategies for building trust quickly, keeping attention high, increasing participation, and creating memorable moments that make your message stick long after the event ends.

Whether you're delivering a keynote or facilitating a workshop, you'll leave with actionable tools to help audiences laugh, learn, engage, and remember...and best of all, to make meeting planners want to invite you back.

    Key Takeaways
    Participants will learn how to:
    - Build authentic audience connection from the moment they step on stage.
    - Use all kinds of different types of techniques to increase engagement and retention.
    - Create anticipation and curiosity that keep audiences invested throughout a presentation.
    - Design presentations that transform attendees from passive listeners into active participants.

"The most talented speaker in the room doesn't always get the gig. The one with a system for finding it usually does.

For most speakers, prospecting means hours lost to manual research, scattered spreadsheets, and outreach that goes nowhere. Landing more stages shouldn't require becoming a marketer overnight — it requires a repeatable process.
In this live, hands-on NSA NYC session, Austin Benton, founder of SpeakerDrive, shows exactly what that process looks like.

Austin built his first lead-generation systems for real estate and mortgage clients before scaling that expertise into a 90-person marketing agency, which he sold in 2023. Along the way, he noticed a pattern: the people winning weren't necessarily the best at what they did — they were the ones running a reliable, consistent process for generating quality leads.

That insight became SpeakerDrive, a platform built to help speakers find and book gigs through automated, personalized outreach. Austin also runs digital marketing strategy for Gotham Artists, a top NY speaker bureau, where his campaigns have driven $5M+ in booked speeches. Through SpeakerDrive, he's helped map thousands of speaking opportunities and the decision-makers behind them.

Hosted by Cait Donovan, this live session will show you:
*The strategies that make prospecting actually work, so you land more stages, not just add more names to a list
*A live, real-time walkthrough of SpeakerDrive — from finding the right events to sending outreach that gets replies. YOU WILL DO THIS WITH US - So please get yourself a 7 day trial of Speakerdrive the day before the event! (https://www.speakerdrive.com/)
*How to knock out a full month of prospecting in a single sitting
*Open Q&A, so you can get your specific questions answered

If prospecting has always felt like the part of the business you dread, this is your chance to see what it looks like with more automation and less guessing. "

There is a vast market of professional, trade, industry, and membership associations that hold conferences, conventions, annual meetings, and educational events every year, and they hire speakers.

But how do you find them? Who actually makes the decision to hire a speaker? How do you reach that person? And how do you turn a cold introduction into a relationship that can lead to a booking and future opportunities?

In this candid and practical Masterclass, Chris Clews pulls back the curtain on the business behind the keynote, sharing the strategies he has personally used to make the association market a significant part of his speaking business.
Chris will walk us through how he identifies associations that are a strong fit, researches the right decision-makers, approaches them directly, crafts outreach that gets attention, follows up effectively, builds genuine relationships, and stays on their radar for future opportunities.

We’ll also explore how a clearly differentiated speaking brand can help you stand out in a crowded marketplace and give buyers a reason to remember you.

    This isn’
t theory. It’s a look at what Chris is actually doing to find opportunities, build relationships, and get booked.

Whether you’re new to the speaking business or looking for a more proactive way to fill your pipeline, you’ll leave with practical strategies you can immediately put to work.

    Takeaways:

    1. Where the Speaking Opportunities Are: Discover the world of professional, trade, and industry associations and why these organizations represent a valuable market for keynote speakers.

    2. How to Find Associations That Hire Speakers: Learn strategies for researching organizations, identifying conferences and annual meetings, and determining which associations are the best fit for your speaking topics.

    3. How to Find the Right Decision-Makers: Understand who makes speaker-booking decisions, where to find their contact information, and how to get your message in front of the right people.

    4. How to Turn Cold Outreach Into Warm Conversations: Explore approaches to introducing yourself, capturing attention, and starting meaningful conversations with potential clients who have never heard of you.

    5. The Art of Following Up Without Being a Nuisance: Learn how to stay on a prospective client's radar, build familiarity and trust, and develop relationships that can lead to future bookings.

    6. What Works, What Doesn't, and What Chris Would Do Differently: Hear firsthand lessons from Chris's transition out of corporate America and the approaches he has refined while building his speaking business.

You'll leave with practical strategies you can immediately apply to finding opportunities, building relationships, and getting booked.

Story Is Your SuperpoweR! Dive DEEP INTO THE ART AND BUSINESS OF STORY

A Workshop for Speakers Who Want Their Message to Land Deeper, Funnier, and Stronger

Great speakers don’t just deliver information. They create moments people remember. And story is the tool that makes that happen.

In this interactive workshop, Hall of Fame speaker and award-winning storyteller Kelly Swanson will pull back the curtain on how stories work inside a speech, not just as entertainment, but as strategy. Kelly will share several of her own stories, then unpack what makes them land, where the humor lives, how the emotional turns are built, and how each story serves the larger message.

From there, we’ll take a deep dive into your burning questions about story, speech structure, audience connection, humor, emotional pacing, openings, closings, transitions, and how to make a speech feel less like a collection of points and more like an unforgettable experience.

The workshop will also include live story and speech makeovers, where selected participants receive coaching on how to strengthen their stories, clarify their message, tighten their structure, and make their content more powerful from the stage.

    Participants will walk away with:

    • A clearer understanding of how story functions inside a keynote, workshop, or presentation.
    • A practical way to identify which stories belong in a speech and which ones do not.
    • Tools for shaping a story so it has stronger humor, heart, purpose, and payoff.
    • Insight into how to connect story to message so the audience does not just enjoy it, but understands why it matters.
    • Strategies for building stronger openings, closings, transitions, and throughlines.
    • A better sense of how to turn scattered content into a speech that flows.
    • Live examples of story and speech makeovers they can apply to their own work.
    • A renewed confidence that their stories are not just extra material. They are the superpower that makes their message unforgettable.

Bottom line: This workshop is for speakers who want to stop sprinkling stories into their speeches and start using story as the engine that drives the entire experience.

Because when you know how to use story, you don’t just give a speech. You create a moment they carry with them." Kelly Swanson is an award-winning storyteller, comedian, author, and Hall of Fame motivational speaker known for blending clean comedy, Southern sass, and powerful storytelling strategy. For more than 20 years, she has helped audiences laugh, feel valued, and see their lives and work in a whole new story. As the author of The Story Formula, Kelly teaches speakers, leaders, and professionals how to use story to connect, persuade, inspire, and make their message unforgettable.

Many professional speakers try to raise their fees by improving their marketing, refreshing their website, or negotiating more confidently. But the fastest path to premium stages often begins with the keynote itself.

In this practical workshop, bestselling author Neil Gordon will show speakers how to create so much value on stage that event planners rush them at the end and offer them higher fees. Drawing from his Silver Bullet Method, Neil will reveal how to shape a keynote in a way that flies in the face of conventional keynote design and instantly makes the speaker stand out.

Participants will learn how to move beyond “good content” and design a keynote that makes doubling their fees inevitable.

    Takeaways:

    • The blueprint for a powerful keynote: How to structure a talk that feels clear, compelling, and worth more.
    • How to craft your signature message: How to identify the one idea your audience must remember.
    • How to find the right story: How to choose a story that captivates audiences and makes your message land."

COMMAND YOUR VALUE:  The NegotiatioN nEdge Every Speaker Needs

Your expertise isn't the issue — your negotiation positioning is.

Speakers invest years developing their craft, yet when it comes to communicating their own value — with meeting planners, bureaus, and decision-makers — many of the same patterns surface: hedging language that signals doubt, premature discounting, and objection-handling that unintentionally erodes credibility. The skills that make someone an exceptional communicator on stage don't automatically transfer to the conversations happening off it.

In this interactive session, bestselling author, globally recognized negotiation expert, and MBA negotiations instructor Fotini Iconomopoulos applies her Fortune 500 frameworks to the specific high-stakes moments speakers face every day. Drawing from Say Less, Get More and her work with elite negotiators worldwide, Fotini equips speakers with the mindset and language to communicate value with confidence, handle pushback without discounting, and move conversations forward without damaging relationships.

    Attendees will leave with:

    • Mindset and language to communicate your value with confidence — without hedging, over-explaining, or leaving money on the table
    • A framework for handling objections and pushback — so you can hold your ground without damaging the relationship
    • Live positioning feedback you can apply immediately"

THE POWER OF RELATABILITY: How to DeliVer More Memorable Messages

Connecting with the audience is the most important thing a speaker does while on stage. Without that connection our points don’t stick, our jokes never land, and we rarely get leads after. In this workshop-style virtual session, we will discuss how to be more relatable with your audiences using storytelling techniques and audience interaction strategies. Participants will leave with new stories to use and renewed confidence in being themselves when they stop on stage. This session is ideal for speakers looking to take their craft to the next level.

    Learning Outcomes:

    1. Attendees will learn 2-3 new ways to unlock stories that they can use in keynotes, workshops, newsletters, coaching, etc.
    2. Attendees will uncover whether they have been leading with credibility or relatability on stage and the impact each one has on their ability to connect with their audience.
    3. Attendees will reflect on the stories they tell themselves that often hold them back from being more authentic and relatable with their audience.
James Robilotta, CSP, is a seasoned motivational speaker, author, emcee, and professionally-trained improv comedian sought after for his ability to bring humor and genuine connection to the stage. James has captivated both willing and unwilling audiences at over 700 events for a variety of organizations, including American Express, GE, Minnesota Twins, Canadian Olympians, and MIT. With 18 years of experience engaging audiences through both comedy and speaking, James leverages a unique blend of relatable storytelling, comedy, and profound insights to leave his audiences both laughing and deeply moved.

Turn Conversations into Speaking Contracts: Stop Rambling Through Introductions and start verbalizing your value

Many talented speakers are powerful on stage, but struggle to clearly explain what they speak about, why their message matters, and why a meeting planner should book them over the next speaker in their inbox. When speakers cannot confidently verbalize their value off stage, they can lose revenue, referrals, relationships, and speaking contracts.
Turn Conversations Into Speaking Contracts is a high energy, strategy driven presentation that teaches emerging and established speakers how to powerfully position, package, and promote their speaking services. In this session, Quinn Conyers challenges speakers to replace a boring, basic elevator pitch with a clear, concise, and compelling Verbal Business Card powered by Luxury Language.
Using her proprietary V.O.C.A.L. Framework, Quinn shows speakers how to verbalize their value, own their differentiator, convert conversations, attract the fees they desire, and leverage Luxury Language. This session is designed for speakers who want a strategic, repeatable way to stand out in a saturated market and turn meaningful conversations into signed, paid speaking contracts.

    Takeaways:

    • A polished Verbal Business Card that replaces their forgettable elevator pitch
    • Clarity on what makes them uniquely positioned in a saturated speaking market
    • Luxury Language tools to confidently verbalize their value in any room or conversation
    • A verbal branding strategy that works both online and in person to attract ideal bookings
    • The confidence and closing language to convert conversations into signed, paid speaking contracts
Turn Conversations into Speaking Contracts is designed for emerging and established speakers who want a strategic, repeatable approach to standing out in their industry and attracting keynote, workshop, and training opportunities at the fees they deserve and desire.

This session is a perfect fit for NSA chapters, speaker summits, professional associations, and entrepreneurial conferences looking for a high-energy, immediately actionable presentation that individuals can use to attract speaking opportunities.

Quinn Conyers is a professional event emcee, TEDx Speaker, and communication strategist with more than 20 years of experience helping speakers and entrepreneurs command rooms with confidence. She has served as a speaker and host for organizations including Nike, PayPal, Meeting Planners International, and more than 12 National Speakers Association chapters nationwide. Through her work, Quinn teaches leaders how to verbalize their value, elevate their message, and turn conversations into paid opportunities.

Learning has the greatest impact when it is put into practice. These facilitated peer discussions help members do just that: turn learning into action. Each month, we'll gather virtually to reflect on key insights from our chapter meetings, masterclasses, and other events, discuss how they apply to our businesses, and decide which ones we'll implement — all in a collaborative learning environment.

Missed a session? Join us anyway. We'll explore the ideas, work through implementation questions, and share experiences and resources — in a spirit of curiosity, openness, and generosity. Along the way, you'll deepen your understanding, exchange perspectives with fellow speakers, and build meaningful relationships.
