NSA NYC Toastmasters Club — Members-Only Speaking Lab

Ready to sharpen your skills in a room full of people who actually get the business of speaking?

Introducing the NSA NYC Toastmasters Club — the first and only Toastmasters group created specifically for a National Speakers Association chapter.

This members-only club is your monthly workout for the craft: a space to test new material, strengthen delivery, refine structure, and get real, constructive feedback from peers who speak professionally. No civilian audiences here — just insiders who speak your language.

We meet once a month on the first Friday, live at Pier 57 in NYC, with a Zoom option* for hybrid access. Whether you’re polishing a keynote, tightening your storytelling, experimenting with humor, or simply staying stage-ready, this is your lab.

To participate, you must be an active NSA NYC member and join the Toastmasters club.

You can complete your Toastmasters enrollment using the QR code:

If you’ve been looking for a consistent, safe, high-caliber environment to rehearse, refine, and rise — this is it. Step in, speak up, and grow with peers who want to see you win.

Behind the Scenes of an Emcee Role: Emceeing - What is it? Can I do it? Does it pay?

Every speaking engagement represents an open door, yet many speakers remain standing at the threshold instead of walking through it. There is a massive reservoir of untapped revenue and relationship potential hidden within the roles of emceeing, moderation, and facilitation. It is time to stop leaving money on the table and start viewing a standard keynote as the mere beginning of a much larger, more lucrative partnership.

In this two-part deep dive, Jess Pettitt pulls back the curtain on how to pivot your existing speaking modalities into high-value emcee contracts. The session begins by analyzing your current toolkit to identify exactly which skills translate to the main stage and, perhaps more importantly, which ones do not. By auditing your current business model, you can open doors to opportunities that were previously invisible.

The focus then shifts to the bottom line: making money. You will learn how to effectively upsell these skills for every event, educating Meeting and Event Professionals who often have a limited view of what an emcee can provide. By demonstrating how an opening or closing keynote can evolve into a bigger contract, you create a pathway for repeat clients and a steady stream of high-quality referrals. Join us to learn how to expand your role, increase your exposure, and maximize your earnings by mastering the business strategy behind the emcee role.

While most experts wait for stages to find them, this interview with Cam Beaudoin will show how a story-driven video system brings planners to you—breaking down what makes video convert, where each format fits in your funnel, and the positioning cues that move you from “maybe” to “must-book” without endless pitching.

SLIDE DECK MAGIC: From Busy to Brilliant. Transform Your Slides, Elevate Your Impact

A great slide deck can be the difference between an average audience experience and an excellent one. Imagine having slides that are so fabulous, people comment on them in surveys! In this program, Alyssa “Twist” Light will demonstrate the profound difference simple choices can make, including the Less-is-Better Method, animations and transitions, and how to stay on brand. If you’re curious about how to level up your deck, this session is for you.

    Learning Objectives:

By attending this session, speakers will:

Raise the bar on their slide decks: Learn how to up level your deck so that it gets commented on during your feedback.

Master the art of the slide: Understand how to use animations and transitions to amplify your message - no more boring decks.

See live feedback: NSA NYC members - want Twist to review your slides? She will design on the spot for NSA NYC audience members. Have your presentations ready on a USB drive with your slide deck file labelled: "SLIDE DECK FOR REVIEW"

    Why This Session?
As AI becomes more prominent, the quality of audience experience is everything. Your job as a speaker is not to deliver content, it is to deliver a palpable, engaging, energizing experience. Your slide deck can either enhance that - or drag you down.

Don't lose your audience (or your potential client!) with a boring, run of the mill slide deck. Impress everyone right off the bat and allow your slide deck to increase the impact of your message.

Every level of speaker needs this - so don't miss out!
